BD Narang is the former Chairman of Oriental Bank of Commerce, who completed his tenure in 2005. During his Chairmanship, OBC became the first public sector bank with Zero Net NPA and was ranked amongst "Best under a Billion, 200 Best Small Companies for 2003" by Forbes Global. OBC was also rated as "Best Bank" by Business India Group for the Year 2003.
Prior to OBC, he was an Executive Director of IBU Hong Kong from 1988 to 1991, and was alternate Chairman of the Committee on Banking Procedures set up by Indian Banks" Association for the year 1997-98.
He has chaired various panels of the RBI and was on the Governing Council of the National Institute of Banking Studies & Corporate Management. He was also elected as a Fellow and Member of the Governing Council of the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance, Mumbai.
He was also a member of the RBI Expert Group for distressed farmers and a nominee member of Ministry of Corporate Affairs on the National Education & Investor Fund. After his retirement from OBC, Mr. Narang has been working in an advisory capacity with approximately 20 companies.
